Sailing

Although the name suggests otherwise, Varuna is in fact a dinghy and catamaran sailing club.

The main competition classes are the "Open Catamaran" Class (mostly Hobies, Nacras), Lasers and, for Junior Sailors, Optimists. Several other classes are also represented.
The Club has active windsurfers too.

Racing events are organised most weekends and there are annual events where sailors from other parts of Asia, or from further afield, come to compete.

Sailing conditions off Varuna are usually ideal. And of course the weather and water are always warm - to the delight of visitors from colder climates. No wetsuits necessary!

Boat handling: Varuna members are fortunate also to have a team of experienced "boatboys" who move boats from the boatsheds to the lawn and will assist members with setting up the mast and launching the boat into the water. When returning from sailing, they will assist with landing on the beach. After you have left the club, they will put your boat back into storage. Boat owners however will remain responsible for the setting up of their boat so that no damage occurs to others.

Instruction:  the Club offers sailing courses and clinics for children and adults at all levels of skill, from beginners to experienced sailors. More.

Boats for rent:  the Club has boats available for rent. More.
